I am sure that iMessage is one of the most popular iOS applications, since it is great for communicating through text, and it is FREE! Unfortunately, a bug appeared, which is called the iMessage purgatory syndrome. Apple is aware of that problem, and they are trying to find a solution!
Remove Phone number from iMessage – How to do it?
To avoid waiting for Apple to find a solution (In the next iOS release), we have a solution for you!
Lets first explain why this error appears, and what it actually does. iMessage is a FREE text application, which automatically finds who has the iMessage enabled to their iDevice. When you are trying to text someone from your contact list, iMessage communicates with Apple, and finds if that person has the iMessage enabled. If yes, the chat bubble becomes blue, and it will not charge you (It bypasses your Carrier’s SMS service).
The problem arises, when you change your smartphone. Your phone number is still registered with Apple’s iMessage, and when people are trying to text you, you cannot receive their messages (because iMessage is not supported from other platforms!).
How to Remove Phone number from iMessage?
The procedure is very simple, but you need to do it manually. Hopefully, in the next iOS update, Apple will automatically do this.
Tutorial to Fix iMessage purgatory syndrome and Remove Phone number from iMessage:
- Go to “My Support Profile” on Apple’s website and sign in with your Apple ID
- Click on the iPhone you want to unregister (All your iDevices should appear there!)
- Click on the “Unregister” button and confirm it
- You will be informed that your iPhone is now unregistered and an e-mail should be send to your account
Fix: iMessage purgatory syndrome: Remove Phone number from iMessage
This method is not verified by Apple, but it certainly works. After doing the unregistering procedure, I was able to receive normally text messages, which means that the iMessage purgatory syndrome was fixed!
